Community / Fiery Up Helly Aa procession lights up Lerwick

LERWICK was awash with flames earlier tonight (Tuesday) as the Up Helly Aa procession lit up the town.

Starting off at Lower Hillhead and ending up in the King Harald Street playpark for the galley burning, the jarl squad and many guizers were in fine form as they roared their way past the crowds.

Standing in the galley with torches swirling around him would have been a highlight for guizer jarl Richard Moar.

But there was little time to reflect, with the squad and guizers setting off for a night of merriment across the various Up Helly Aa halls in Lerwick.

Enjoy a compilation of photos and video clips from the procession. Photos by Peter Parker.
