Emergency services / Coastguard teams sent to Hillswick to help injured woman
THE SUMBURGH based coastguard helicopter was sent to Hillswick this morning (Sunday) after a woman suffered a leg injury while out on the coast.
The alarm was raised at around 11.10am, with coastguard rescue teams initially sent to assist the Scottish Ambulance Service.
The coastguard helicopter then arrived at the scene – the coastline above the West Ayre beach – to collect the woman before flying a short distance to an awaiting ambulance.
A spokesperson for the coastguard said the woman will be transferred to hospital.
The incident happened near to where people have gathered to catch a sight of a beluga whale first spotted a few days ago.
