Community / Action plan to identify opportunities for Nesting, Girlsta and Wadbister
A COMMUNITY action plan is set to be drawn up for Nesting, Girlsta and Wadbister to identify opportunities for the area.
The Community Development Company of Nesting (CDCN) has secured funding from the Scottish Government’s Community Led Local Development grant scheme for the project.
It will enable the community to consider priorities for the area over the next ten years.
CDCN has partnered with Community Enterprise Scotland to gather input from local residents, visitors, and other people with an interest in the area.
This new project comes at a time when CDCN is set to complete the last phase of a series of projects on its land at the Aald Skül in South Nesting, including the establishment of the Nesting Gym, expansion of its Nesting Scrapstore, restoration of its Victorian building for office space and a beauty salon, and development of a community growing space.
It also announced that it has received funding to undertake a feasibility study on alternative burial and funeral services.
CDCN development officer Mark Ratter said: “Having achieved several long-term goals in line with CDCN’s vision of opening new facilities and amenities for the benefit of the community, CDCN is now keen to build on this by facilitating discussion about the area’s future.
“The aim here is to identify opportunities not only for CDCN to implement, but for local groups and businesses in the area to consider making a reality too.”
Ratter also emphasised the importance of hearing views from communities outside the more densely populated South Nesting area too.
“An important part of this community plan is to understand what the needs are in all areas which CDCN represents,” he added.
“As such, we will work with Community Enterprise to distribute surveys to all households, interview key stakeholders throughout the area, and hold community engagement events in North Nesting, South Nesting and Girlsta.”

The information from the events, surveys and interviews will be assessed to identify priorities, before the results of the action plan will be made available to the wider community in the spring.
