Court / Sovereign campaigner’s ‘sheer arrogance’ results in 14-day prison stint
A WOMAN from Boddam is to spend the next fortnight in prison after continuing to question the jurisdiction of Lerwick Sheriff Court.
Sandra Irvine was led away in handcuffs following a hearing at the court on Wednesday.
The hearing was held as a means enquiry to assess the 60-year-old’s ability to pay £500 to the court which could then be paid back if she was of good behaviour.
It followed Irvine being found guilty in August of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards two people near her home on 28 November last year.
At court on Wednesday Irvine said she was still waiting to see proof of the court’s jurisdiction.
When Sheriff Ian Cruickshank asked if it was her intention to lodge the £500, Irvine maintained her views over jurisdiction.
He said he originally viewed Irvine’s actions as ignorance, but said it was now “sheer arrogance”.
The sheriff instead gave Irvine the alternative of 14 days in prison, from today’s date (Wednesday).
