A BUYER is still sought for prominent Shetland seafood business Blydoit Fish Ltd, which has bases in Scalloway and Lerwick.

The company initially went up for sale last year after its four owners decided the time was right to move on.

Popular fish shop for sale

The business, which currently employs 18 people, has been in operation since 2003.

As well as operating two fishmongers, Blydoit supplies hotels, cafes, restaurants, takeaways, the Gilbert Bain Hospital, care homes and local shops with fish and shellfish.

The sale presents an opportunity for a new owner to continue to build on the legacy created by James John Shearer, staff, and fellow shareholders of the whitefish boat Mizpah LK173.

Originally established to sell the boat’s own catch, the business has grown over the years.

With the fishing vessel now sold, Blydoit sources whitefish from the islands’ fish markets and other local processors.

The company currently processes around five tonnes of fish per week and has a six-figure turnover.

Shearer said: “We are proud of the legacy we’ve built over the last two decades and would like to thank our customers for their support.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for a new owner to continue the tradition of providing our Shetland and trade customers with fresh fish.

“With two operational bases and a dedicated team, the potential for growth is tremendous.”

The new buyer will be offered an agreed period of transition to ensure a smooth handover. Anyone with an interest in buying the business is encouraged to contact the seller direct.
