Transport / NorthLink resumes ferry service to an amended timetable
Loganair puts on extra afternoon flight from Aberdeen
AFTER two days of cancellations NorthLink is resuming its lifeline ferry service this weekend albeit to a heavily altered timetable.
Rather than departing Lerwick at 7pm tonight (Saturday), the southbound Hrossey will now leave port 12 hours later at 7am on Sunday heading for Aberdeen where she is expected to arrive at 5pm the same day.
The Hjaltland, sailing north, is due to depart Aberdeen at 4am on Sunday morning, arriving at Kirkwall at 11am and Lerwick at 6pm.
For boarding times please contact NorthLink Ferries on telephone 08001114422.
The schedule for the two cargo vessels has also been pushed back from Saturday to Sunday morning departures.
Saturday’s alternations to the timetable will have a knock-on effect on Sunday night’s sailings.
The Hjaltland is currently scheduled to depart Lerwick for Aberdeen between 10pm and midnight, with an expected two hour delay of arrival at Aberdeen on Monday morning.
The Hrossey meanwhile is set to depart Aberdeen at the later time of 9pm sailing first to Kirkwall and then to Lerwick where she is expected to arrive at midday on Monday.
Meanwhile, Loganair said they have put on an extra flight to Sumburgh this afternoon leaving Aberdeen at 3.05pm to help those unable to travel over previous days.
Last night’s last Aberdeen flight did not operate due to winds gusting out of safety limits at Aberdeen.
Airline chief executive Jonathan Hinkles said: “Priority is going to NHS patient travel and those with mobility assistance first before general booking.
“Teams at Aberdeen airport and Loganair customer help centre are working through the lists now.”
Meanwhile, travel from the central belt to Aberdeen is still not advised due the weather conditions in the area with a red weather warning in place for Angus, and parts of Tayside and Aberdeenshire.
