Sport / ‘An absolute honour’: Lerwick ASC named Scotland’s swimming club of the year
A LERWICK swimming club is celebrating after winning a coveted national award.
Lerwick Amateur Swimming Club (Lerwick ASC) has been named club of the year by Scottish Swimming.
The prize was given out at a ceremony at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow on Saturday night.
Lerwick ASC beat off competition from Heart of Midlothian and Renfrew Baths to win the award.
Organisers praised the support Lerwick ASC gives to members and the community, and its dedication to growing all areas of the club.
Club chair Inga Geddes said it was a “massive” achievement.
“It’s just an absolute honour but really only what the swimmers deserve, and it’s lovely recognition for everyone’s hard work,” she said.
“We are a family of coaches, committee members, parent volunteers and it’s lovely to be recognised for all the work we’ve been doing.
“The tears from everyone tonight show just how proud we are, we are absolutely delighted. We love going that extra mile and the work that goes on is just phenomenal – to get the recognition for what we all do is just brilliant.”
It comes after the club celebrated its 150th anniversary last year.
