Community / People invited to give their views on government’s national islands plan
PEOPLE are being encouraged to take part in the Scottish Government’s consultation on the National Islands Plan review.
The consultation, which can be accessed online, is open until 9 October.
A series of in-person and virtual community workshops will also be held in September and October, with more details due to be published in the near future.
Cabinet secretary for rural affairs, land reform and islands Mairi Gougeon said the the National Islands Plan, which first published in 2019, “aims to improve the quality of life for island communities”.
“As part of this, we have delivered funding across all six island local authorities through the £25.8 million Islands Programme and the £2.4 million Islands Emergency Cost Crisis Fund, and are also supporting six islands on their journey to become carbon neutral through the Carbon Neutral Islands project,” she said
“Created with island communities, the first National Islands Plan launched just a few weeks before the Covid-19 pandemic hit.
“As such, the time is right for us to consider what has worked well, what might need to change, and to review if the Plan still meets the needs of our island communities. As the people most affected by the plan, it is crucial that we hear from islanders so I would encourage anyone with an interest to engage with our consultation.”
