Arts / War of the Worlds screening aims to raise cash for CLAN
A SPECIAL screening of the musical version of War of the Worlds is taking place at Mareel later this month to raise money for charity.
The screening, taking place at 2.45pm on Saturday 19 August, is raising cash for CLAN Cancer Support.
It will also feature a special introduction recorded by composer Jeff Wayne especially for the screening.
The event is being put on by local man David Leask.
“During lockdown Jeff Wayne gave fans the opportunity to ask him questions, and I did,” he explained.
“From this I managed to contact some of his people and this has paved the way to where we are now.”
The film in question is the stage musical adaptation of H.G. Wells‘ alien invasion novel, filmed live at London’s O2 arena in 2012.
The reimagined story, which was first released in 1978 as a concept album by Jeff Wayne, is narrated by Liam Neeson and includes performances by Jason Donovan, Marti Pellow and Ricky Wilson.
Tickets for the screening in Mareel’s screen two can be bought online.
