Community / Tall Ships crew parade brings carnival atmosphere to Lerwick

LERWICK was awash with colour as more than 1,300 Tall Ships crew members walked through the town on Wednesday afternoon.

The crew parade kicked off at Victoria Pier at 4pm, and it carried on through to the main stage at Holmsgarth for an opening ceremony.

One crew member involved in the parade was Erlend Arntzen Dale, who captains the Norwegian Gaff Cutter Skreien.

He told Shetland News that the crew were having a “fantastic” time in Shetland.

With dressing up a key feature of the parade, the crew member was kitted out as a fish (see below) – with the boat named after a cod.

Nearly 40 boats are in Lerwick for the Tall Ships Races, with activities and entertainment starting at around 11am.
