Sport / Shetland dominates Greenland with impressive 5-1 football win
WHILST they won’t be bringing home a medal, the boys in blue played a heated game – in terms of both weather and competition – this afternoon against Greenland.
They were fighting for 7th place overall after coming 2nd in their group table earlier in this week in Guernsey.
Midfielder Ronan Grant got in an early goal in the 10th minute.
He then scored again just before half time, increasing Shetland’s lead to 2-0.
Greenland bounced back with their first goal quickly into the second half.
But James Aitken got another goal up on them, bringing the score to 3-1 at 59 minutes.
Right on the back of that came a Shetland goal from Neil Laurenson just four minutes later.
And the blues weren’t finished there: Ronan Grant soon scored yet another, strengthening the score to 5-1 and bagging himself a hat trick.
A tense final 25 minutes followed, but the Shetland defence held strong and maintained the score.
