Court / Fife man admits bringing heroin north on the ferry
SENTENCING a 33-year old man from Fife has been adjourned until early August after he pleaded guilty to a charge of being concerned in the supply of heroin.
Lerwick Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday how a retired police officer became suspicious of Thomas McKenna’s behaviour on board the NorthLink ferry between Lerwick and Aberdeen.
Travelling on the same ferry north the following day and being monitored by police, McKenna, of Lumphinnians, was stopped and searched after arriving in Lerwick on 28 September last year.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said that three bags with 68 grams of the class A drug were found within a flask of soup.
Mackenzie said that broken down to the smallest quantity the drugs had a potential street value of more than £4,500.
Sheriff Ian Cruickshank asked for a criminal justice social work report and adjourned the case until 9 August at which time McKenna’s defence solicitor Tommy Allan will speak in mitigation.
