Business / Gurkha Kitchen wins national restaurant award
LERWICK’s Gurkha Kitchen was named Nepalese restaurant of the year at the Scottish Restaurant Awards in Glasgow last night (Monday).
The Gurkha was up against restaurants from all over the country, but came out on top at the ceremony in the Marriott Hotel.
The family business has been a popular fixture on North Road since 2006.
It was the only Shetland establishment to get a mention at the awards.
The owners thanked “all you lovely people who voted” as well as their “hard working staff” on social media yesterday.
A spokesperson for the awards said: “These awards serve as a platform to highlight the outstanding contributions of restaurants and individuals who play a vital role in shaping Scotland’s vibrant food scene.
“By acknowledging their achievements, we aim to inspire continued innovation, collaboration, and growth within the industry.
“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and finalists of the 2nd Scottish Restaurant Awards 2023.
“Their commitment to excellence has undoubtedly raised the bar for the Scottish culinary landscape.”
