Community / Three organisations scoop lottery funding
THREE Shetland organisations have secured funding from the National Lottery.
Shetland Women’s Aid has been awarded £131,595 to further develop its three stage trauma recovery model which had been halted by the Covid pandemic.
The project will work with around 600 to 700 people and could involve 16 volunteers.
Meanwhile Voluntary Action Shetland has been given £111,264 to continue its befriending scheme 60+ dementia project.
This supports people across Shetland who are affected by dementia, living in a period of significant loss or change in their own home, are significantly socially isolated, and who are receiving very limited or no support.
The project will work with around 45 people and involve 30 volunteers.
Finally The Bop Shop has been given £7,500 to carry out repairs to its not for profit record shop and creative community space.
This will include structural repairs, a new window, roofing and doors.
The essential repairs will also help to improve heat and sound insulation, making the space more affordable for the community to use.
Across Scotland a total of 460 community projects have been given funding, with the grants totalling £13 million.
The National Lottery Community Fund Scotland chair Kate Still said: “I am delighted to see this £13 million of National Lottery funding going to projects where connections and community action are central to happier healthier lives.”
