Community / Funding joy for local charity
ABILITY Shetland has secured a grant of £120,000 for the next three years from Children in Need.
The funding will cover the core costs of the charity’s children and young people project which includes staffing and activity costs for the many groups it delivers across Shetland.
Team leader Stephanie Bain said: “This funding gives us, and the families who require our support, a bit of security for the next three years.
“It also is recognition that what we do locally is needed and valued, and will help us secure match funding from local and national funders going forward too.”
Bain said the team was “so pleased” as funding is becoming more a challenge for the third sector to secure, at it comes at a time when more disabled people are requiring more support with accessing social opportunities that are inclusive and within their own communities.
“We are very grateful to BBC Children in Need for the maximum grant amount that will make such a difference to disabled children and their families in Shetland,” she added.
