Community / Folk encouraged to have a ‘coffee with a cop’
POLICE officers in Shetland have embarked on a series of events to meet communities and hear first-hand of local issues and concern.
The first such ‘Coffee with a Cop’ events were held in Whalsay and in Unst last month.
Chief inspector Stuart Clemenson was joined by two police constables to hear from local people.
Further ‘Coffee with a Cop’ events will be held later this month in Cunningsburgh, Brae, Scalloway and Lerwick over the coming weeks.
The dates are as follows:
- 16 May, Cunningsburgh Hall, midday to 2pm,
- 19 May Islesburgh Community Centre, Lerwick, 2pm to 4pm.
- 22 May, Brae Youth Centre, 1pm to 3pm.
- 7 June, Scalloway Youth and Community Centre, 1pm to 3pm.
The area commander said: “The ‘Coffee with a Cop’ event’s aim to brings police officers and the community members we serve together – over coffee – to discuss community concerns and learn more about each other.
“The events are held in person where officers meet at local locations in a community spaces with the hope of providing the opportunity for real conversations about issues that matter within their communities.
“We will be available at the attached locations and are joined on some of the events with our partners from Trading Standards and Victim Support Scotland where the community residents can sit down with officers and ask questions or share what’s on their mind.
“I encourage as many of the community to attend.”
