NEARLY £130,000 worth of drugs were intercepted in the postal system by police in Shetland in February and March alone.

The drugs were traced with the help of local charity Dogs Against Drugs.

Police said in an activity report for February and March that officers are continuing to intercept Shetland-bound packages at Lerwick’s postal sorting office.

It comes after further calls for more government funding for the Dogs Against Drugs charity.

The police update report added that there were 18 “attempt to possess” drug incidents recorded in Lerwick in February and March, and two possession incidents.

There were also attempt to possess incidents recorded in the Burra/Trondra, Sandsting and Aithsting, Sandwick, Delting and Gulberwick, Quarff and Cunningsburgh areas.

There was also one possession and one intent to supply incident recorded in Sandwick.
