Emergency services / Emergency services called to kitchen fire in Unst care home
FIRE FIGHTERS attended to reports of a kitchen fire in the Nordalea care home in Unst this morning (Tuesday).
One appliance from the local station in Unst was sent to the location but the fire was extinguished prior to the crew’s arrival.
A spokesperson for care home operator Shetland Islands Council said: “A fire alarm was triggered this morning at Nordalea Care Home in Unst, caused by an overheated pot on the kitchen stove.
“Staff responded immediately, followed procedures and the Unst fire crew attended but the fire was extinguished before their arrival. All residents and staff are safe and well and there is no structural damage at the care home.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.07am on Tuesday 2 May to reports of a fire within the kitchen area of a residential premises in Nordalea.
“Operations control immediately mobilised one fire appliance to the location however the fire was extinguished prior to our arrival.
“Crews ventilated the kitchen and left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
