Business / Petrol stations running dry due to fuel shortage
SHETLAND appears to be running dry on unleaded fuel this weekend.
Several petrol stations in Lerwick have rationed the sale of unleaded fuel or closed early, as supplies ran out on Saturday.
There were also reports of no unleaded fuel available at several country petrol stations.
Shetland News has been contacted by many readers wondering what was going on.
A number of petrol stations have taken to social media to apologise to their customers explaining that it was not a situation of their making.
Sound Service Station, in Lerwick, said they were expecting some limited supplies later on Sunday.
The reason behind the disruptions in the fuel supply is said to be a requirement to run the North Ness fuel tanks dry as part of a change over from winter to summer fuel.
However, there has been no official explanation from fuel depot operator Cerfas Energy.
The company has been contacted by Shetland News and a response will be posted here once received.
