With the prestigious Tall Ships Races event fast approaching, Business Gateway Shetland is hosting a series of in-person workshops for businesses to help maximise their social media activity ahead of the event.

Tall Ships Races presents a unique opportunity for Shetland businesses to capitalise on the increased footfall of local, national and international visitors.

In anticipation of the heightened social media activity ahead of the event, Business Gateway Shetland is offering free in-person sessions to help event vendors, suppliers and sponsors; street traders; businesses; services; tourist attractions etc to effectively promote their products and services to the visiting audience.

The training sessions will be led by social media specialist Rene Looper.

The sessions will focus on popular social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok, providing guidance on best practices and strategies to engage potential customers before, during and after the Tall Ships Races.

Businesses are urged not to miss this valuable opportunity to expand their reach and tap into the potential of the Tall Ships Races.

Kirsten Nicolson, Business Gateway Shetland manager said, “Being seen in this digital age is not always easy so learning how to take full advantage of the common social media platforms is essential.

“We’re thrilled to welcome back our digital specialist, Rene Looper (founder and managing director of Tuminds) to Shetland to deliver these workshops.  Rene has worked with Shetland businesses for almost 10 years sharing his vast range of digital knowledge and expertise.  Many folk will already have had his help in the past and know how beneficial this is.”

Speaking about social media in the travel and events industry, Rene Looper said, “According to a report by Sprout Social, businesses that engage with their audience on social media have a 4.5 times higher likelihood of increasing sales, showcasing the value of proactive communication with potential visitors before their arrival.”

Emma Miller, Shetland Tall Ships Ltd project manager added, “It’s great to have Business Gateway Shetland provide this training.   Local businesses and services have a huge opportunity here to really engage with visitors and get their products seen by a national audience before visitors arrive in Shetland.  We want businesses to get the full benefit of the Tall Ships visit to Lerwick in July.”
