Court / Four year ban for Lerwick drink driver
A LERWICK man with previous convictions for drink driving has been banned from the road for four years.
Appearing at the town’s sheriff court on Wednesday Andrew Eunson pleaded guilty to being four times the legal limit for alcohol while driving in Lerwick on 24 February.
Police were alerted by a concerned member of staff at the local Tesco store who had witnessed him driving off the supermarket’s carpark while clearly intoxicated.
The 57-year-old digger driver was caught by police officers while still in his car at his home address of Lover’s Loan, and when he failed the roadside test he was arrested.
Defence solicitor Tommy Allan said his client was going through a difficult time and was struggling with care responsibilities for his mother who was suffering from dementia.
The day in question had been a day off from work for him and he been drinking. “Stupidly”, Allan said, he took his car when needing to do some shopping.
Sheriff Ian Cruickshank fined Eunson £800, payable at £50 per month, and disqualified him from driving for four years.
