Education / Praise for progress at Sandness Primary School
A WESTSIDE school has been praised for the progress it has made following an inspection in 2018.
Education Scotland has concluded that no further engagement is required with Sandness Primary School.
It comes after areas for improvement were identified in the 2018 inspection.
This included continuing to revisit the depth of the curriculum and ensuring it was implemented at an appropriate pace.
A progress report highlighted that the school has developed its vision, values and aims and is incorporating these into its curriculum rationale.
This has led to inspectors being satisfied with the progress made.
Speaking at a meeting of Shetland Islands Council’s education and families committee on Monday, quality improvement manager Robin Calder said the local authority was “very pleased” with the school’s progress, and he took the time to congratulate headteacher Elizabeth Garrick.
Shetland West councillor Liz Peterson said: “It’s a lovely school and you have a very hard working head teacher.
“I’m delighted that Education Scotland is now happy with everything that is developing there.”
