Community / Help sought to find lost earring containing late dad’s ashes
A VISITOR to Shetland is asking for help in looking for a lost earring containing the ashes of her late father.
Claire Baker says she lost the hugely sentimental piece of jewellery on Tuesday while out in the Vidlin and Lunna Ness area.
She told Shetland News that the earring “means so much” to her – and that she had worn it every day since it was gifted to her.
“I lost my dad suddenly in 2020 when he collapsed and died,” Baker said.
“I tried CPR but unfortunately couldn’t save him. I also lost my mum at the start of 2022.
“My earrings were a Christmas present from my children who knew how much my dad meant to me and how wearing my earrings meant he was always close to my heart.”
She said she is unsure of the exact location of where it was lost, adding that the earring has a serial number on it.
One of the locations visited was the graveyard at Lunna Kirk and the surrounding shoreline.
Baker, who is due to head home to England tomorrow (Friday), explained that it was her first time in Shetland.
“It’s been a dream of mine [to visit Shetland] for many years,” she explained.
“When I lost my dad, I valued life a little more and wanted to ensure I followed my dreams and that was booking a holiday to Shetland.”
