SHETLAND Islands Council says that due to challenging road conditions there will be no waste collection in the North Mainland, Westside, Bressay, Yell or from side roads in the South Mainland today (Wednesday).

The waste services team will continue to collect waste in Lerwick, Scalloway and from households along the main roads in the south for as long as conditions allow.

Further disruptions to collections are also expected tomorrow (Thursday). Weather permitting, staff will attempt to catch up with missed collections over the weekend.

NHS Shetland said it has had to close the Unst and Walls health centres due to a lack of power. Other health centres are in the main open but most are operating with reduced staffing. New appointments are limited to urgent ones only.
