Education / Schools to remain closed on Wednesday

SCHOOLS and early learning settings in Shetland will remain closed tomorrow (Wednesday) due to the continued wintry weather conditions.

With temperatures forecast to fall below freezing tonight again and uncertainty over school travel and power supplies across the islands, the decision has been taken for schools and early learning settings to stay closed tomorrow, for the safety of pupils and staff.

Schools were shut today due to the weather and impact the snow and ice has had on power supplies.

Fair Isle Primary School will however remain open. The Eric Gray Centre at Seafield will also close tomorrow.

The Lerwick and Scalloway campuses of UHI Shetland will also be closed on Wednesday due to the adverse weather conditions.

Courses that were due to run will be re-arranged, and students are asked to check their student emails.
