Court / Sentence deferred on dangerous driver
SENTENCE on a young man from Sandwick who pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving has been deferred until January next year.
Luke William Bryant admitted driving dangerously at grossly excessive speeds between Lerwick and Cunningsburgh on 12 April.
The court heard that police had spotted the 22-year-old driving at the Sound Brae and wanted to talk to him about a previous concern.
However, instead of stopping Bryant took off at speed with police in pursuit.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said police were doing 100mph, but Bryant was still pulling away from them.
They slowed down in Cunningsburgh and eventually lost him.
In court on Wednesday, Bryant, of Houlland, defended himself. He said he was aware that he will be disqualified.
Sheriff Ian Cruickshank, however, asked for a criminal justice report which will be available when Bryant is due to appear again on 18 January 2023. He has been disqualified in the interim as of today.
