Emergency services / Fishing crew member taken to hospital

THE COASTGUARD came to the aid of an injured crew member onboard a fishing vessel off Unst on Tuesday night.

The alarm was raised shortly before 8pm, but the weather meant the coastguard helicopter was unable to carry out an airlift.

The fishing boat ended up traveling to Cullivoe in Yell instead, where the helicopter picked up the crew member – a number of hours after the original call.

Coastguard rescue teams from Lerwick, Mid Yell and Baltasound were all involved. The crew member was taken to the Gilbert Bain Hospital for onward medical care.
