Emergency services / Coastguard and lifeboat in overnight search after flare spotted
EMERGENCY services spent a number of hours overnight searching off the west of Shetland following reports of a flare being discharged.
The coastguard search and rescue helicopter and the Aith Lifeboat were both involved, as well as coastguard rescue teams.
However, no-one in distress was found and there are no reports of anyone missing.
The lifeboat was launched just after midnight and it was not until after 6am that it returned to base in Aith.
The search covered the area around Papa Stour as well as St Magnus Bay.
