Transport / Kirkwall to Fair Isle flights to return next year

LOGANAIR is to resume is direct flights between Orkney and Fair Isle.

The service will run twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, from May next year.

The Kirkwall-Fair Isle flights were introduced back in 2017 but they have not run for a number of years.

The Fair Isle Bird Observatory, a vital source of accommodation on the remote island, burned down in 2019.

But work has now begun on the rebuild, with the first modular units being delivered to Fair Isle last week – and this has prompted Loganair to reintroduce the service.

People in Shetland can fly to Fair Isle from Tingwall Airport using the council air service.

The Good Shepherd ferry also runs between the Shetland mainland and Fair Isle.

Meanwhile Loganair is also introducing a weekly service from Orkney to Bergen which will stop off in Sumburgh en route to Norway.
