Court / Fined for assault
A WOMAN from Lerwick has been fined a total of £600 after spitting in the face of a man who had previously been convicted of an offence involving indecent images.
Yvonne Duncan, of the town’s St Olaf St, also directed abusive comments comments the man – and shouted and swore – when she saw him at the Marlex pub in Lerwick on 22 April.
She admitted the charges of assault – the spitting – and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner when she appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Thursday.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said that the 51-year-old began shouting “peado” at the man after spotting him in the pub.
The court heard that he tried to ignore it before moving to go outside to vape.
Mackenzie said Duncan then spat at the complainer’s face, and when the man went back inside she continued to shout towards him. In the end the man ended up decided to leave the pub.
Defence agent Tommy Allan said his client “took umbrage” at the man’s presence. “She’s not proud of her actions.”
