Court / Sandwick man fined after admitting gun charge
A MAN who repeatedly discharged a shotgun in a built-up area of Sandwick and also allowed a 12-year-old child to do likewise has been fined £500.
Paul Wilson of the village’s Cameron Way pleaded guilty by letter to a charge of culpably and recklessly firing the shotgun across a publicly accessible track after consuming alcohol.
Lerwick Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday that neighbours had become concerned by the behaviour of the 47-year-old and called the police. The incident happened on 7 May this year.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said Wilson had subsequently surrendered his gun.
Quoting from the letter, Sheriff Ian Cruickshank said Wilson apologised for his conduct and had also handed in his gun licence. Wilson was not present at court.
