Court / Remanded in custody

A MAN from Lerwick has been remanded in custody until next month after admitting behaving in a threatening or abusive manager in a town takeaway.

Scott Anderson, of Hoofields, appeared from custody at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Monday.

The 32-year-old admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at the Golden Wok takeaway on Lerwick’s North Road on 20 August.

He admitted acting in an aggressive manner towards his wife, shouting, swearing, seizing a laptop from her, directing abusive remarks towards her and placing her in a state of fear or alarm.

Defence agent Tommy Allan said Anderson has the support of his wife, and that alcohol was an issue for his client.

He sought bail from honorary sheriff Willie Shannon, but procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie opposed this because of Anderson’s “appalling” criminal record.

Shannon sided with the fiscal and remanded Anderson in custody until 14 September, when his case will reappear in court for sentencing following the preparation of a criminal justice social work report.

On that date the court will also hear facts of the case, as well as representation from Anderson’s defence.
