Court / Prison term for breaching bail conditions
A MAN from Mossbank has been jailed for five months after admitting repeatedly breaching bail conditions imposed back in December 2020.
Appearing from custody at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Thursday morning, Sheriff Ian Cruickshank told Adam Nelson that breaching bail conditions had consequences and that “in law” he could no longer allow this to continue.
The 33-year old, of Leaside, had previously pleaded guilty to failing to comply with the order on two occasions, on 16 May at his home address and on 7 June at an address in Lerwick.
He appeared in court on Wednesday and was kept in the cells in Lerwick overnight ahead of sentencing.
Defence solicitor Tommy Allan told the court that Nelson was hoping to get a place in a rehab institution and asked the sheriff to allow this to happen by deferring the matter.
However, Sheriff Cruickshank said these were repeated breaches and Nelson’s actions had consequences.
He jailed him to four months for the bail breach on 16 May and for five months for the 7 June offence. Both jail terms are to run concurrently.
