Court / Fine for assaulting woman in Lerwick street
A MAN from Cunningsburgh who assaulted his ex-partner in a Lerwick street in March this year has been fined.
Neil Adamson, of Wilhoull, admitted grabbing hold of the woman, forcing her to the ground and placing her in a headlock when he appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Thursday morning.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said the police was alerted after a number of people witnessed the incident, which took place outside Goudies Funeral Directors on 15 March.
Defence solicitor Gregor Kelly described the offence as an “unedifying conduct in a public place” and added that there was nothing that could justify Adamson’s conduct.
Kelly continued sby aying that his 45-year-old client had been under a lot of stress at the time as a result of losing a lot of work due to Covid restrictions.
He said the Adamson was no longer in a relationship with the woman, but they remained friends.
Sheriff Ian Cruickshank fined Adamson £470 for what he described as an “unfortunate incident” and added that he felt there was no need to impose a non-harassment order.
