Business / Cafe set to reopen in Sumburgh Airport
THE LACK of any cafe facilities in Sumburgh Airport is expected to come to an end soon after a new operator said it will open up in the building.
The team behind Lerwick cafe Coffee Culture is set to expand again and open a branch in the airport.
It comes after previous cafe operator Caffe Volare closed in April.
Airport operator HIAL initially said it anticipated a new service being in operation in mid to late May, but that did not come to pass.
The latest news, however, will not come as much consolation to those who have been stuck in Sumburgh Airport during recent flight disruption without a cafe.
In a post on social media, Coffee Culture Sumburgh said securing contract will mean the business’ staff count will rise from 18 to 23.
In addition to Coffee Culture at Harrison Square, the company also runs the cafe in the Clickimin Leisure Centre and a juice shop on Commercial Street.
It said it will be opening the departure lounge cafe soon and before following it up with the opening of the landside section.
Airport operator HIAL said it was not able to comment until the deal has formally been signed.
