Shetland Charitable Trust (SCT) is inviting local charities to apply for a share of around £580,000 still available from its main grant scheme for next year.

The vast bulk of the scheme’s £8.8 million budget for 2023/24 is already allocated to charitable organisations in the form of provisional multi-year grants – a changed system brought in by SCT to provide more financial certainty for the community bodies it supports.

These include the rural care centres, voluntary groups, Shetland Recreational Trust, Shetland Amenity Trust and Shetland Arts.

Around £580,000 still remains in the budget and is now being offered in a new application round running from 27 June to 15 August, with the successful bidders receiving the funds from April next year.

Applicants are invited to seek funding for up to two years. To be eligible to apply, organisations should have a turnover of more than £50,000 a year and be undertaking charitable activities in the fields of social care and welfare, arts and culture, heritage and the environment or sport and recreation.

All grants are aimed at improving the quality of life of everyone in Shetland with particular emphasis on reducing inequality and social exclusion.
