A FUNDRAISER is to embark on a cycle between the most southerly and northerly distilleries in the Scotland, finishing up in Shetland.
Robert Richardson will end his Whisky Ventures Ride at the Saxa Vord distillery in Unst in the week commencing 27 June.
While the distillery – best known for its gin – sells some whisky bottled in Shetland and diluted with Unst water, it is made from malts from the Scottish mainland.
As Richardson aims to travel via every operating single malt whisky distillery in Scotland, the trip could cover between 2,000 and 3,000 miles.
It is all in aid of Scotland Charity Air Ambulance and the Scottish regions of Cash for Kids.
He will kick things off at the most southerly distillery in Dumfries & Galloway on 12 May.
Richardson also hopes that each distillery he visits will donate at least one bottle of whisky to create a unique collection that will be auctioned for charity.
“Having been involved with numerous charity events, expeditions, and some races over the years, I felt it was the right time to organise a major event of my own and to support charities I have tremendous respect for,” he said.
“I believe the charities I have chosen to support do hugely important, and often taken for granted, work with some of the most vulnerable members of society who are in need, be that in a one-off emergency or through ongoing support.”
During the ride people will be invited to join in on their bikes, with GPS technology allowing people to track the progress online.
