Community / Motoring enthusiasts gear up for 19th show
PREPARATIONS are well underway for the 19th Shetland Classic Motor Show, which is due to take place in June.
As it is a biennial show, the last time it was held was four years ago – with the Covid pandemic cancelling things in 2020.
This year’s event will take place at the Clickimin Leisure Complex in Lerwick on 4 and 5 June.
Over 370 exhibits have already been entered, and this covers the usual wide spectrum of vehicles and motoring memorabilia over more than a century.
The list includes a 1926 Bugatti Type 35B Grand Prix which has raced on every continent, and a rider from Finland with her 2002 Honda Transalp, on which she circumnavigated the globe in 2014.
Entries can still be made online up to 30 April using this link.
Due to the external areas at Clickimin being designated for exhibits, public parking for show visitors will be provided at the Anderson High School, accessed from North Loch Drive, via the North Lochside roundabout.
Meanwhile the committee thanked NorthLink Ferries for its continued support of the event as main sponsor.
The weekend in question is set to be a busy one in Shetland, with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee being celebrated across the country between 2 and 5 June.
Living Lerwick previously indicated plans to host a ‘summer spree’ in honour of the jubilee on Commercial Street on the Saturday (4 June).
That night visiting ska band Bombskare will also share the bill with local favourites First Foot Soldiers and the Dirty Lemons at the Lerwick Legion.
