Election / Fixed links and free fares feature in councillor’s manifesto
FIXED links and free bus and ferry fares are two key features of a councillor’s election campaign.
Ryan Thomson will again vie for the North Isles ward in the May vote after first being elected in 2017.
His manifesto contains a number of key issues – one of which is to leave “no stone unturned” in making fixed links a reality.
“The business case for the future of Bluemull Sound will take place during the next 12-18 months, and a fixed link is the only logical and sensible option,” Thomson said.
“It’s imperative, and realistic, to assume that we should be aiming to get a spade in the ground in the next five years.”
He also advocated free bus and ferry passenger fares to encourage more people to take public transport.
Other aims include preserving schools in the North Isles, exploring self-determination for Shetland, improving ferry service and progressing the Cullivoe road project.
Thomson said it has been the “greatest privilege of my life to represent” the North Isles.
