AN UP Helly Aa themed display is turning heads in Lerwick – with onlookers invited to leave donations for charity.

Lerwick Up Helly Aa committee member Lynden Nicolson has set up the display at his home on Bruce Crescent.

It includes a wooden galley, Vikings and also the Town Hall clock – complete with raven flag and the time set to the light-up time of 7.30pm.

Nicolson is raising cash for Cancer Research UK/Relay For Life and a donations box is present at the display.

Later tonight (Tuesday) an Up Helly Aa squad is walking the route of the festival’s halls into next morning to raise money for Cancer Research through the local Relay For Life. Nearly £8,000 has been donated so far.

For a second year in a row the Lerwick Up Helly Aa, which would have taken place today, has been postponed due to the Covid pandemic.
