Coronavirus / Delay in reporting results in lower than expected Covid numbers

THERE were just three new cases of Covid recorded for Shetland during the last 24 hours – a number that has been described as lower than it should be.

Public Health Scotland has confirmed that it is already investigating why the total tally for Scotland was as low as 2,434 on Wednesday.

Data published by Public Health Scotland also shows that 13 per cent of the 52,022 Covid-19 tests that reported results were positive. That would indicate total case numbers in the region of 6,750.

A spokesperson for NHS Shetland said: “We are aware today’s reported cases are lower than they should be for Shetland.

“This is due to a national delay in reporting. Because of this we expect to see higher positive case numbers tomorrow.

“All those waiting on PCR results will not be affected and will still get their results as quickly as possible.”

Meanwhile, NHS Shetland’s vaccination clinic at Gilbertson Park is open today until 6.30pm and tomorrow (Thursday) between 11.30am and 6.30pm for booked appointments and for walk-ins.
