Court / Released on bail
A THIRTY six year old man accused of behaving abusively towards a woman and driving while disqualified has been granted bail at Lerwick Sheriff Court.
Mark Gilhespy, of Aeness, Cunningsburgh, had his case continued without plea when he appeared from custody on Tuesday afternoon.
It is alleged that he engaged in a course of abusive behaviour towards his partner or ex-partner between 27 September and 3 October at addresses in Lerwick and Cunningsburgh.
Gilhespy is also accused of driving a vehicle while disqualified and uninsured on the A970 near Gulberwick on Sunday (3 October).
It is further alleged that he took a vehicle from Cunningsburgh without the owner’s consent on the same day.
Honorary sheriff Malcolm Bell said he was “just” minded to grant bail, which was opposed by procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie, with special conditions attached that Gilhespy does not contact the complainer and does not enter Lerwick.
The case was continued until 13 October.
