Health / Patient travel office on the move as health board creates more space in hospital
ADDITIONAL space is being created at the Gilbert Bain Hospital as part of NHS Shetland plans to manage waiting lists and enable more patients to have procedures locally.
As a result, the patient travel office is being relocated to Montfield.
To allow the move to take place, the office will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday (29 and 30 September).
Urgent bookings can be made during this time by contacting hospital reception.
A NHS Shetland representative asked that people only do so if their travel truly is urgent – “otherwise please wait until the department re-opens on Friday 1st October”.
Patient travel has been closed to the public since the start of the pandemic and will remain so after the move.
The office co-ordinates and books travel services for patients who require treatment at the Gilbert Bain Hospital or hospitals outwith Shetland.
Contact with the department will continue to be by telephone or e-mail, with tickets being posted out if time allows.
If travel is at short notice, tickets and parking vouchers for airport parking can be collected from the hospital reception.
Claim forms for reimbursement of travel expenses can be handed in at the hospital reception or posted to patient travel.
