BBC Filming / Various traffic restrictions in Lerwick tomorrow as filming returns to town

FILMING for the next series of Shetland will take place at locations around Lerwick on Tuesday (14 September).

Various traffic restrictions will be in place at points through the day.

Shetland locations manager Davie Gardner said: “Please note that the times shown are when the actual official restrictions will be in place, not necessarily when filming will actually be happening there.

“Rest assured we will do everything we can to keep these restrictions and timings to an absolute minimum at all times, opening up the areas concerned as soon as possible.”

SHETLAND LIBRARY – LOWER HILLHEAD

There will be a full road closure from just north of George Robertson’s electrical shop to the junction with Union Street between the hours of 11am and 8pm – although it is expected that this closure will be lifted well ahead of time all being well.

Parking will also be restricted on Lower Hillhead between the hours of 7.30am and 8pm, but again these restrictions will be lifted as soon as possible.

LERWICK SHERIFF COURT

Here a series of ‘stop/go’ traffic control measures will be in operation outside the Sheriff Court and the surrounding roads and junctions between the hours of 12pm and 8pm, with parking restricted on Lower Hillhead, St Olaf Street and King Erik Street between 7.30am and 8pm as well.

Please note that traffic will only be held for a few minutes at a time while actual filming takes place. Here again these restrictions will be lifted as soon as possible.

67 COMMERCIAL STREET – THE ANTIQUE SHOP

Here the road will be closed at the junction of Commercial Street and Church Road between the hours of 2pm and 8pm, including the disabled parking bay outside the Shetland Times Bookshop on the street.

A temporary stop/go traffic control system will also be in operation in the same area on a short section of Church Road and the Esplanade adjacent to the Commercial Street junction.

Please note that traffic will only be held for a few minutes at a time while actual filming takes place. Here again these restrictions will be lifted as soon as possible.

LERWICK LODBERRIES

A very short scene will be filmed outside the Lodberrie (Perez’s house) from approximately 4pm-6pm.

The road will not be closed, but a temporary stop/go traffic control system will be in operation.

“Again, we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by this,” Gardner said.
