Election / Nearly 30 vacancies up for grabs in community council by-elections

NOMINATIONS are being sought for a number of seats on community council across Shetland.

A total of 27 vacancies are up for grabs across 13 community councils in the by-elections.

People have until 4pm on Thursday 9 September to get their nomination papers in.

In the event of any seats being contested, polling will be concluded by 21 October.

The community council with most vacancies is Sandwick, which has five.

Delting, Lerwick, Dunrossness and Tingwall, Whiteness and Weisdale all have three unfilled seats.

Gulberwick, Cunningsburgh and Quarff have two vacancies, as does Whalsay.

Bressay, Fetlar, Scalloway, Unst, Yell and Burra and Trondra all have one vacancy each.

Only Sandness and Walls, Sandsting and Aithsting, Skerries, Nesting and Lunnasting and Northmaven do not have vacancies.
