SHETLAND Amenity Trust head of development and assistant CEO Davy Cooper has passed away, the organisation has said.

In a statement the trust said it was with “immense sadness” that it learned of the news this morning.

“He was a much loved member of the staff team and a hugely respected individual who gave so much to both the trust and to Shetland’s heritage,” the trust said.

“Shetland and its heritage was Davy’s passion, he volunteered in many different groups and societies and his passing is a huge loss to us all. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”

Cooper, from Mossbank, was a well-known storyteller who contributed to several books both as a writer and illustrator. He stood in the council election in 2012.
