A NEW phone number is available to call for those who cannot make their appointment for a Covid vaccination at the mass vaccination centre in Lerwick.

The telephone number is 01595 743 319.

This is in response to the recent weather which saw several people unable to make their slot and needing to reschedule.

Callers to the line will be asked to leave their details and one of the vaccination scheduling team will call back to offer an alternative appointment.

Brian Chittick, who is leading the operational rollout of the vaccination programme, said the line was for leaving a message to cancel a scheduled appointment only.

“If you require advice on your eligibility for the Covid vaccination, and potentially when you will receive it, then you need to check the NHS Inform website,” he said.

“And, if you have not yet received an appointment for your Covid vaccination, you need to wait until one of our team contacts you in due course. I must remind people that the Independent Living Centre is not a drop-in facility and is by appointment only.”

Chittick said the over 65s group would be receiving the first dose of their vaccination next and everyone in this group would be contacted in coming weeks to come to the mass vaccination centre or, in the case of the outer isles, to their health centre, for their vaccination.

“But remember don’t call us….we’ll call you,” he said.

“We do understand that people are very eager to have the jab and protection from this virus. We are working through the priority groups as quickly as we can and, provided we have the vaccine, we will be out there vaccinating.”
