LEISURE centres across Shetland are set to remain closed until the start of February.

Shetland Recreational Trust chief executive Steven Laidlaw said the decision came after yesterday’s (Monday) announcement from the Scottish Government.

Leisure centres in Shetland had previously been set to reopen from 18 January.

“Although we have been kept in level three at the moment the message is very clear that we should all avoid unnecessary travel and stay at home as much as possible,” Laidlaw said.

“With the increased number of cases locally, and the fact that all schools will also be closed until February, it is prudent for us to remain closed as this time.

“Reducing contact with others and keeping each other safe now will hopefully put us in a better position at the end of January.”
