Community / Hjaltland tenants warned about false scam ‘contractor’
HJALTLAND Housing Association (HHA) is warning its tenants to be aware of a man “masquerading as a contractor” working on behalf of the association.
The housing association has notified Police Scotland and Shetland’s trading standards team after the man, who claimed to be “working” on an external boiler, was challenged. He refused to provide his name and “left very quickly” after being told the association would be contacted to verify the work.
On its Facebook page, HHA advised tenants: “Please remember we will always notify you when we are planning to do works to your property, inside or out. Our contractors will always be happy to supply both their name, and the name of the company they work for.
“If you have any concerns regarding suspicious behaviour in or around your property or neighbourhood, please phone us on 01595 694986 or phone Police Scotland on 101 (999 in emergency).
“If you can, noting the vehicle registration number may also be very useful information.”
