Court / Driving ban for not paying insurance
A MAN from Brae has been disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for six months after being caught driving without insurance for the sixth time.
Lerwick Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday how Richard Johnson, of Grindwell Road, was stopped by police on the road from Dales Voe to Lerwick on 28 February.
The 43-year-old was given a fixed penalty notice but because Johnson was not able to pay the penalty at the time the case progressed to court.
When realising Johnson had a long list of previous convictions for the same offence Sheriff Ian Cruickshank had no hesitation in banning him from driving. He was also fined £300.
Johnson was fined a further £200 for possessing 0.2 grams of heroin in the car park of the Lerwick Baptist Church on 14 June last year.
